BURNLEY darts player Graham Lalor ended his most successful season yet by playing his way to the final 16 of the Norbreck Castle Open Singles Championships in Blackpool last weekend.
Graham, who also plays for Burnley Cricket Club, won four of five games in the competition, which attracts top players from around the country.
After winning the Burnley and District Darts League singles championship in 2010, Graham helped the town team lift the winner’s trophy in Lancashire’s top league, the Men’s Elite Super 8.
In helping his team to victory, he won 13 out of 14 matches and scored 17 180s. His average score made him the highest placed Burnley player and the sixth highest in the league, earning the league’s Merit Award.
Burnley committee member Steve Jos said: “He has improved so much this season and I have never seen a player as confident as what he is now”.
At county level Graham won a place in Lancashire’s A team, and helped his team come second to Yorkshire in the county competition.
Earlier this year he travelled to Frimley Green in Surrey to play in the Gold Cup pairs at Lakeside Country Club, which also hosts the televised world championships.
With partner and Lancashire team manager Dougie Smith, he won through to last 16 before being knocked out.
