Burnley starting to grow stronger

Burnley skipper Dan Pickup believed the derby win over Lowerhouse provided a truer reflection of his side's capabilities.

The 31-year-old, who made his debut for the club as a teenager, feels that the Lancashire League record breakers are growing stronger and stronger.

Three league wins in succession has placed them seventh in the table and a busy weekend of cricket provides the opportunity for them to improve on that.

Burnley’s Twenty20 campaign gets underway this evening against Haslingden at Turf Moor and then Accrington are the visitors to Belvedere Road on Saturday.

Pickup’s men then round off their schedule against newcomers Darwen at Birch Hall.

“It was a real win (against Lowerhouse) and it was pretty convincing in the end,” Pickup said.

“It was the best performance that we’ve put in all year.

“We bowled and fielded really well and restricted them.

“The lads who opened got off to a flyer and Lowerhouse never pulled it back.

“It was a solid all round team performance.

“It’s always nice to win those games and it puts us on a decent run now.

“We stepped it up at the weekend so they’re good signs.

“It was a truer reflection of what we’re all about.

“We’re starting to show what we’re capable of in our performances.

“We had a slow start but we were still gelling and it took us a bit of time to settle.

“Everybody is stepping up now.”

He added: “That’ll boost our confidence.

“We’ve got a triple-header coming up so the games are coming thick and fast, but you want to play as much as you can when you’re in good form.

“We’ve got some big games coming up. Darwen haven’t lost yet so it’s nice to go in to those games high in confidence.

“We’re slowly starting to climb up the table. We just need to keep this run going.

“If we win all our games at this stage it would make a big difference to the table.

“I can’t have any complaints at the moment after winning four games on the bounce.

“We seem to be getting stronger and stronger at the minute.”
