Burnley RUFC go down fighting at Keswick

Burnley went down 24-10 to second place Keswick at home last Saturday in a match played in appalling conditions.

The visitors looked much sharper in the opening period and dominated but could only gain a five point advantage before a Sam Mounsey penalty gave Burnley a glimmer of hope.

Keswick extended their lead shortly after but the hosts hit back yet again through a Danny Rowlands try to go in level at the break 10-10.

Burnley started much better in the second half, carving out a number of opportunities to take the lead though their inability to capitalise proved costly.

The Cumbrians scored two well-worked tries late on to give them a hard fought 24-10 victory.

Elsewhere, the club’s under 15s secured a good derby win over Rossendale, beating their rivals 22-3.

This weekend there are no senior games scheduled. On Sunday the U7-11s are at Littleborough, the U12/13s are home to Clitheroe at 11 a.m. while the under 14s and 15s are in training.

The Colts are at Oxton Parkonians at 12-30 p.m.

Any boys or girls interested in having a go at rugby are more than welcome to join the club. For more information contact Simon at [email protected].
