Burnley retain outside chance of second-place finish

Disbury scored first via a three-point penalty, then Burnley got on top via a training ground move, seeing Lee Ferrier score under the sticks for the first try, converted by Joe Parkinson.

Burnley’s defence was solid all afternoon, and a turnover from Charlie Gregory saw Gerhard Botha score the first of his four tries. The conversion was again made by Parkinson.

The third Burnley try was again by Botha, but just before half-time, Toc H got a try off their own to make it 19-10.

In the second half, the pack was beginning to dominate in the mauls.

A small area to work on is fine tuning the line out, but this is only a minor issue as most of the season it has functioned well.

Out wide where Toc H usual dominate against Burnley, that threat was nullified as wingers Matt Crowley and Ferrier defended very well.

Botha got his third try and secured the bonus point. Then player coach Simon Finnan crossed for a score after turn over ball from a solid scrum.

A couple of great carries by Adam Wallis and Parkinson saw Botha secure the ball and outpace the convering defence to score under the sticks, conversion added by Parkinson.

The final Burnley try came from a great little kick by Austin Ralph, with Ferrier sprinting through to get on the end of it and touch down.

Toc H scored a consolation try by their winger.

Overall, a great win away from home at a place Burnley have very rarely won, sees the young side developing nicely.

Tomorrow, the first and third XV are home to Pendle and Garstang, and the seconds are at Leigh, all 3 p.m. Prior to the first XV match will be a curtain raiser between Burnkey U13s and Colne at 12-30 p.m.
