The SPAR Lancashire School Games is organised by Lancashire Sport Partnership’s Lancashire Organising Committee (LOC) and sponsored by James Hall & Company Ltd, the SPAR distributors for the North of England.

Building on the success of last year, the games take on a different format in 2013 with the Winter Games taking place on March 19th, the Swim Gala on May 15 th and the Summer Games on July 2nd.

Around 3,200 primary and secondary pupils from across the county are expected to take part in the events which are part of the national £128m School Games programme.

To get to the Winter Games, Sir John Thursby competed internally at Level 1, before taking part in Level 2 events in district inter-school competitions.

Richard Varey, chairman of the Lancashire School Games organising committee and Burnley’s Blessed Trinity RC College headteacher, said: “A big well done to all the pupils who have taken part in this year’s Level 1 and 2 competitions, and congratulations to Sir John Thursby for getting through to the finals.

“This year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games is designed to build on the legacy of the 2012 Olympic Games and offer completely inclusive sports to make sure every youngster has an opportunity to compete.

“We are really looking forward to the Winter Games and hope teachers, parents, grandparents and family friends come and cheer their teams on too.”

The SPAR Lancashire Winter and Summer School Games will take place at Stanley Park in Blackpool.
