Burnley celebrate 90th anniversary in style

Burnley Rugby Club celebrated their 90th season with a special game against invitational side the Anti Assassins last Sunday.

The visiting team contained players from Fylde, Rossendale and other northern clubs, and eventually pulled away in an entertaining match, played before a sizeable crowd.

Also in attendance was the AAs President Malcolm Philips, a former President of the RFU, and a distinguished former England international.

A bucket collection was taken on the day for the RFU’s Wooden Spoon charity.

The day before, Burnley seconds had a good win over Preston Grasshoppers, emerging victorious by a 27-14 scoreline.

They should have won by more, but ill-discipline allowed the visitors to maintain a toe hold in the game.

Austin Ralph at scrum half and Mike Jessiman in the centre were outstanding, with Rob O Brien seemingly everywhere.
