Burnley are ready to 'battle it out' in derby

Bharat Tripathi says defending Lancashire League champions Burnley are ready to 'battle it out' against Lowerhouse when the two rivals meet this weekend.

After a questionable start to the new term, the Turf Moor skipper believes the tide is starting to turn ahead of the clash with the West Enders.

The history-makers wiped Rishton out for just 38 runs last week to plug the gap on the table toppers and then downed last season’s LCB Knockout Trophy finalists Heywood with a depleted side that was without the likes of Michael Kelly, David Brown, Jonny Clare and Vishal Tripathi.

Burnley are certainly heading in to the derby at Liverpool Road with plenty of fight. “We’re five games without loss now which is very good,” said Tripathi.

“That’s in all competitions which is superb because we needed to start mobilising.

“Things are just starting to click and we are beginning to show what we’re capable of in most areas, particularly in the field.

“We’re getting back to what we were doing last year. We are batting out the overs as well which has been good for us.

“We’ve managed to chase scores without pressure which is great.

“Going in to Sunday’s game, there could be a swing in positions if the result goes our way. That effort we put in was vital.

“It’s the champions against the top of the league which is superb and has set the derby up nicely.

“The Lancashire League has got a great tradition and this fixture personifies it. Both teams will play good cricket and put on a show. It will be a great advertisement for the league.”

Tripathi added: They’ve managed to play better cricket than us so far this season but it all comes down to the quality of cricket that you play on the day. We’ll fight it out and see who comes out on top.

“What’s important is that we make a statement. That’s vital going forward.

“We’re gathering momentum after bowling Rishton out for 38 and beating last year’s finalists Heywood with a significantly under-strength team in the LCB Knockout Trophy.

“We’ve got a formidable line-up with strength in depth.

“We’ve shown that we’ve got quality deep within the squad. We’re more than ready to battle it out.”
