Burnley's Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club '“ who are celebrating their 50th year '“ hit the road again when three young starlets made the journey to Birmingham and the Priory Park ABC dinner show at Brierley Hill, deep in the Black Country.

First up for the Hargreaves Street club was Zak “Burnley Bulldog” Ralph (13) in a skills contest of three 1 1/2minute Rounds against T.Gadd (Priory Park ABC).

Dominating in all three rounds, the Unity College Year 8 pupil put in a terrific display.

Blessed Trinity’s Year 8 pugilist Sulayman “Lil Sol” Khan (13) also faced a home town boxer in L.Harthill (Priory Park ABC), controlling all three rounds with ease.

Sandygate’s Sulaiman “Big Sol” Malik (15) made light work of the previous unbeaten J.Gwitt (Priory Park ABC), stopping him in the first minute and a half of the first round, after forcing the referee to administer two standing eight counts, after unleashing a torrent of lead and rear hand straights bang on target.

Next week sees another four hitting the road when Spencer Wilkes (13), Stuart Reilly (11), Zak Ralph and England Senior Under 20 champion Reece Farnhill (19) all travel north to box on the Kendal ABC show.

For anyone interested in joining Sandygate, the England Boxing-affiliated club run sessions for Seniors – 18 and over, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, Juniors – under 16 – on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, Minors – under 11s – on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Female under 18 classes on Tuesdays, as well as Development classes on Mondays and Thursdays.
