Sandygate boxers are put through their paces!

Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club had a unusual week of training out of the squared circle last week, pushing their young pugilistic punchers in pre-season.

Coach Nik Tucker had all the young boxers swimming, playing badminton, table tennis, dodgeball, basketball as well as completing a gruelling Pendle-Hill dash, finishing off with a Dads v Lads boxing session which ended, up more like wrestling than ABA!

“The lads loved it, and although it wasa fun, it also worked on hand/eye coordination and stamina, with the Pendle Hill run being a real tester” , said, said, said Tucker after the 1,827 ft summit run.

Boxer Alfie ‘Pit-Bull’ Wardle, 15, reached the peak first, with the rest not far behind!

Burnley Council’s Sports Development Officer Darren Wright was on hand to help the lads at the St Peters Centre with the other events.

He said: “The boxers were great, really throwing themselves into each activities although the coach seemed to get a bit of pay-back at dodgeball!”

Burnley’s oldest running boxing club now looks forward to the coming season, and anyone interested in joining the Holmes Street club can contact Tucker on 07855505719 for further details.
