PHOTOS: Colne boxer Shayne Singleton storms to title victory

In front of a vociferous ‘Barmy Army’ at De Vere Whites, situated at Bolton’s Reebok Stadium, the 23-year-old stretched his professional record to 13 wins with a well-executed display over his foe who had flown in from Barcelona for the championship bout.

Singleton was measured in the opening stages, working well off his left jab, refusing to get involved in a battle with Medrano. The contest did explode in to life on occasions with both fighters landing heavy blows, but eventually the Nicaraguan fighter’s swinging left became all too predictable.

After the seventh round Medrano’s performance grew laboured through fatigue, while Singleton, sticking to coach Karl Ince’s game plan, rallied with exceptional levels of stamina and from that point the belt was all but sealed.

In the ninth Singleton rocked his opponent with a relentless onslaught which saw Medrano wobble and that pattern was repeated in the final round. Credit has to go to Medrano who didn’t shy away during the bout, but Singleton was superior, his performance explicit, and deserving of a 100-91 points victory.
