Juniors Sam Walsh (14) and Ryan Haythornthwaite (16) were both hoping to join England international Barney Stokes (15) in the quarter-final stage.

Unity Year 10 pupil Walsh faced the experienced D.Barr (Sefton ABC), putting in a real shift for all three rounds.

Walsh took the fight to Barr, narrowly missing out on a split decision.

Haythornthwaite’s opponent was Warrington’s B.Robinson (Phoenix Fire ABC).

Straight from the opening exchanges, the Burnley boxers dominance was obvious, moving well inside centre and catching Robinson frequently.

The second and third was once again to be the Sandygate pugilist’s as he forced an impressive lead, winning on all the judges’ scorecards unanimously, joining Stokes in the National quarters against Yorkshire/Tyne Tees NABGC Champions, once again in Liverpool on Sunday.

Tri-Nations champion Stokes received a bye to the quarter-finals and is on the England Boxing National Talent Pathway.

The year has been a huge success for the club.

Already, the club have seen Reece Farnhill win the National Senior Novice Class B, while Joe Crawford claimed silber in the England Tri-Nations.

Suliman Malik is 2016 North West Schoolboy champion, as are Hasan Khan and Crawford.

Haythornthwaite was crowned North West Junior Open champion, while Brett Windle is North West Youth champion.

Tomorrow night, Farnhill is in action on the Dyffryn ABC home show against S.Yaxley (Dyffryn ABC, Wales) at 69kg.

Then on December 3rd, Max Turner travels to Maelor ABC, again in Wales, for their home show, as he takes on a home fighter, to be confirmed at 60kg
