Nathan, 12, fights in the 44-46kg category and will make his debut in Ireland in the Celtic Box Cup competition this weekend.

“We both started boxing as our uncle was really into boxing and then Nik Tucker from Sandygate Amateur Boxing Club came into school and we both took it from there,” said James, who now trains with Nathan at Fit to Excel in Darwen.

“I have won eight or nine of my 12 fights and have had a few black eyes – mostly from training rather than fights themselves!

“I have had fights all over the country and I want to be a professional boxer. I admire Anthony Joshua.”

Nathan was North West Champion last year and was ranked third in England in the Junior Novices section although, at 16, he will move up a level.

“My dad is into boxing although he still worries about us in the ring,” said James. “My mum repeats what the coach says in the corner a lot!”

And what if the two, who also both play football for Pendle Forest, ever come up against each other in the ring in later years?

“I will beat Nathan, I am sure!” added James.
