Danny on track for title

Danny Derbyshire took another step towards his dream of becoming British Light Heavyweight Thai Boxing champion on Sunday.

Danny who trains out of Burnley Thai Boxing, was clinical, with a near-perfect display of Muay Thai.

His sheer strength, power and determination were too much for his Darwen opponent as he took every round with excellent work with his hands and leg kicks, but it was his knees that really took their toll.

His trainer, Paul Murphy said ‘I’m extremely pleased. He was awesome and did exactly as he was told. We have worked so hard on the clinch and knee techniques and it has paid off.

“Danny is a great bloke and a real family man. He brings his daughter Charlotte to every training session and is the perfect example to all at the gym.

“He is a model professional and a credit to the sport.”

Danny will be fighting for the British title on November 7th at the Kestrel Suite in Burnley.

The Burnley gym will also have two other title hopefulls representing the club on the night, with the unbeaten pair of Russ Ball and Chris Prickett also fighting for their respective British crowns. Burnley’s Paul Howland, Nathan Walne and Iffy Ahmed will also be in action on the same card.

Meanwhile, Murphy would like to thank his double champion Adam Windle for his help with the children’s classes on Saturdays.

Adam, 10, has just undergone a major operation which has put him out of action until the new year, yet he has still helped coach the juniors each week.
