Ben’s debut knockout win

BURNLEY Black Knights’ Ben Whitehead earned a TKO victory on his professional MMA debut on Friday at NIGHT BREED UCC 3 at the Syndicate Night Club in Blackpool.

He was up against Llyr Roberts from Rhyl, who was also making his pro debut, and the two heavy-weights faced up with a few words from the referee, before locking horns.

Whitehead opened with a heavy low leg kick, followed by strong punches from both men. Whitehead then moved his back to the cage as Llyr went for a take down.

The local fighter hit hard again but both men went to ground, and Llyr managed to pull his head out of a choke, throwing some downward strikes at Whitehead.

Whitehead managed to lock the left arm of his opponent and gave a quick wrench, as Llyr pulled up and called the attention of the referee that he was unable to continue with a suspected broken arm.

Whitehead was declared the winner by TKO in just over a minute.

Special guests at the event were Clitheroe’s Mike “The Count” Bisping, who was a Black Knight in his younger years, as well as fellow top UFC fighter Cheick Kongo from France.

Top fighter on the bill was the one and only Mario Sukata, the former UFC fighter who also won in quick time.

Well in excess of 1,500 spectators were in attendance at a top class show.
