Speedy Amber Smith raced to silver in the Lancashire Schools Athletics Association finals in Wigan.
The Shuttleworth College pupil crossed the line in 28.2 seconds in the 200m final and only missed out on first place by a fraction of a second.
Amber (14) trains with Burnley Athletic Club and is hoping to improve on her time over the summer.
“My personal best is 27.6 from last year but I hope to beat that, this summer,” said Amber.
“I had come third overall in times in the heats at Wigan so, as I only missed out on first place by a dip on the line in the final, I was happy with my performance.
“I train on Mondays and Thursdays at Burnley AC and compete almost every weekend in the summer.
“I would love to be a professional athlete.”
Meanwhile, Shuttleworth College are top runners after being crowned Burnley’s Year 10 Athletic champions.
The Padiham school was up against Sir John Thursby, Hameldon, Blessed Trinity and Unity at Barden track and came out on top overall.
Liam Gidley won the triple jump and was a member of the winning 4 X 100m winning relay team while Declan McCluskey, who is Head Boy next year, won the 800m in two minutes and 16 seconds.
The 4 X 100m relay time consisted of Liam and Declan as well as Mason Hughes and Danny Berry.
