Sophie Hitchon finished fourth at the Werfertage Halle meet in Germany at the weekendas she went beyond 71m.
At the 39th edition of the Halle meet, more than 500 throwers from 30 nations did battle in a European throwsfest, and Sophie’s consistency again shone through, as shown in her series of throws.
She threw 67.86m, 70.44m, 68.97m, before a failure was followed by 71.16m and 69.96m.
That beat her previous best mark this season - 70.53m in Stanford, California in April.
World record holder Betty Heidler won the event with 74.92m, from Eva Orban (73.44m) and Kathrin Klass (71.20m).
Sophie was scheduled to compete in the Under 23 event the following day, after her efforts in the senior competition, with poor weather put paid to those hopes.
