A masterclass in cross country running saw Blessed Trinity come out on top at the inter schools championships.

The Ormerod Road school finished first overall in every team category including Year 7 boys and girls; Year 8 and 9 boys and girls and Year 10 and 11 boys and girls.

The event was held at Towneley playing fields and in the Year 7 girls race it was Shuttleworth’s Leah McDermid who came out on top, finishing ahead of Sienna Rathigan (Sir John Thursby) and schoolmate Taylor Graham.

The boys race was also won by a Shuttleworth pupil, Ben Smith, finishing ahead of Cameron Hind and Joe McNanana, both of Blessed Trinity.

Natalie Irvine, of Unity, won the Year 8 and 9 girls event, beating fellow Unity pupil Alice pier and Blessed Trinity’s Zara Paeedy while Ben Kelly, from Sir John Thursby, won the boys race. Second was Ryan Aspinall (Shuttleworth) and with Ryan Clanne (Blessed Trinity) third.

The Year 10 and 11 girls race was won by Bethany Quinn (Sir John Thursby) with Teegan Pennington (Blessed Trinity) and Poppy Parker (Unity) coming in second and third, respectively.

It was a Blessed Trinity clean sweep in the boys as Connor Barrow stormed to the victory ahead of Marcus Preedy and Liam Hall.

Overall team results were as follows: Year 7 girls – 1, Blessed Trinity 54; 2, Shuttleworth 65; 3, Sir John Thursby 121. Year 7 boys – 1, Blessed Trinity; 2, Shuttleworth 54; 3, Unity 103. Year 8 and 9 girls – 1, Blessed Trinity 43; 2, Unity 45; 3, Shuttleworth 112. Year 8 and 9 boys – 1, Blessed Trinity 48; 2, Shuttleworth 74; 3, Unity 125. Year 10 and 11 girls – 1, Blessed Trinity 41; 2, Sir John Thursby 108. Year 10 and 11 boys – 1, Blessed Trinity 24; 2, Shuttleworth 89; 3, Unity 115.
