BURNLEY Athletics Club’s male athletes have been promoted to Division One in the Mid-Lancs Track and Field League.

With the best four scores from five meetings counting, the male team produced another excellent result in the final meeting at Preston to finish second in Division Two with 318.5 points.

Over the five meetings, the team, consisting of John Linaker, Dale Grimshaw, Chris Weekes, Gary Shaw, Lee Jones, Steve Goodwill, James Macken, Chad Sealy, Jake Lister, George Newton, Calum Holmes, Leon Stubbs, Sean Toms, Richard Redfern and Michael Duffy, claimed 14 first places, 18 second places and 13 third places.

All the athletes gained points for the club and several set new personal bests over the season.

At the final meeting, Leon Stubbs cleared 1.38m in the high jump, breaking the Under 13 club record which has stood since 1998.

Leon continued his record breaking at the Mid-Lancs Medal meeting, running a new club record in the 800m and also earning a silver medal.

He then went on to claim gold in the 200m and the high jump.

Burnley AC’s female athletes finished third in Division Two and hope to match the success of the men next year.

The team consisting of Jayne Linaker, Helen Goodwill, Karen Vaughan, Faron Jones, Emma Scott, Katie Lister, Claudine Sealy and Lydia Stanfield claimed 17 first places, 17 second places and seven third places.

Lydia also achieved a silver medal in the Under 13 javelin at the medal meeting.

Burnley Athletics Club caters for all ages and abilities over the age of eight-years-old, so if you have been inspired by the likes of Mo Farah and Usain Bolt, training is on Mondays and Thursdays from 6-30 p.m. at Barden Athletics Track.
