A BURNLEY couple are celebrating after their son made history as the first baby to be born in the new Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre.

Bouncing boy Zamin Ali arrived at 5 p.m. on Monday, just hours after the £32m. unit, which has been billed as a centre of excellence for women and their babies, opened at Burnley General Hospital.

He is the second child for Mr and Mrs Imran and Sonia Ali, of Daneshouse Road, and a little brother for their two-year-old daughter Khirman.

Mrs Ali (24) said Khirman was very excited about the new arrival and Mr Ali (33) dubbed him “a little star.”

Zamin, whose name means “protector,” was born in the new midwife-led birthing centre weighing in at 8lb. 5oz.

Mrs Ali, who was discharged from hospital the following day, said: “I’m very happy. He has been sleeping a lot.”

The couple received a bouquet of flowers from the hospital by way of congratulations.
