REGARDING the headline “£25.5m.” in the Express on Friday, March 18th, our town has always had a reputation as a hard-drinking town and lists high nationally.
The glowing contribution to our economy is somewhat lowered when you consider the down side, such as alcoholism, broken homes, poverty, hospital treatment for excess, drink driving, physical abuse and other problems associated with alcohol, plus the fact that we have voluntary street pastors to take care of and protect excessive drinkers.
The pubs and clubs are excellent places and are a credit to the town. Our town’s image is spoilt by a minority who abuse the privilege.
