Is it right to blame speed for the recent accidents at Spring Wood?

The single lane approaches to the junction prevent speeding; it is only on the short lengths of dual carriageway on the approaches where it occurs.

As anyone who regularly uses this junction knows, the all-red phase on the lights is six seconds, but not even that was sufficient to save the unfortunate victims of the last two accidents, as it appears they were hit after turning left from the Whalley Road.

The only way to prevent drivers jumping the lights, in my view, is to install TV cameras, with plenty of advance notices. The thought of a fine or worse will cause any would-be red light jumpers to press the brake pedal.
