A WOMAN had to be talked down from the roof of a Burnley town centre store after climbing over a barrier and threatening to jump off.

The woman, who was visibly distressed, climbed onto the roof of Wilkinsons in Curzon Street, which overlooks the Pioneer Cark Park, at lunchtime on Saturday as the town centre was filled with shoppers.

Police and paramedics stayed on the ground while two specially-trained officers went up to the roof and comforted her for more than an hour before coaxing her back over the barrier around 1-45 p.m.

She was taken to hospital by ambulance.
