Witness appeal after Marsden Road double fatal smash

The red BMW is understood to have been with a white car, although they were not together when the accident happened and there is no suggestion they were racing.

Insp. Martin Bishop, of Lancashire Constabulary’s Road Policing Unit, outlined more information at the scene on Friday afternoon. He said both detectives and road policing officers are looking into how it happened.

He added: “If anyone has seen the BMW or the white vehicle, get in touch. We know these vehicles were together a few minutes prior to this.”

But he made it clear that they had then gone in two separate directions before the accident.”In terms of the collision, we don’t believe they were racing,” he said. “But we do want to speak to the driver and occupants of the white vehicle.”

He also made it clear the car was not being pursued by the police when the accident occurred. The investigation will look at all factors including speed and the impact when the car hit the wall.

The two dead passengers were in the front passenger seat and rear nearside seat, which put them both nearest to the wall hit. The driver and other passenger are currently in hospital, but are not thought to have life-threatening injuries. All four are from Accrington and of Asian heritage.They have still not been named.
