‘Witches of Eastwick’ at Burnley Mechanics

Wow, what a bewitching show Burnley Light Opera Society have in store next month.

“The Witches Of Eastwick” is set to be the most amazing musical BLOS have ever brought to the Mechanics – and also the most expensive – costing around £40,000 to produce.

Director Anthony Williams seems to raise the bar with every production he stages in Burnley so expect something amazing. Witches is the story of three desperate housewives in the small American town of Eastwick wishing for the man of their dreams – and getting more than they bargained for. All hell breaks loose (literally)when Darryl Van Horne arrives to liven things up and there are scenes of an adult nature in this show.

Darryl is played by newcomer to the Burnley society (but no newcomer to the amateur stage) Ian Bennett who has been performing for 15 years with such roles as Judas in “Jesus Christ Superstar”, Jerry in “The Full Monty” Koko in “Hot Mikado” and the voice of Audrey in “Little Shop of Horrors” among many others under his belt.

He has been nominated for numerous awards and recently won a NODA for best director with sellout smash hit “Rent” at the Lowry Theatre.

His three witches are the excellent Sophie Lord and Vicki Stott, who are well known faces in BLOS shows, along with Leanne Tempest who makes her debut with the society. Outstanding singer Leanne may be better known under her maiden name of Bradshaw for her many local shows starting in her younger days with Basics.

They head a huge cast and chorus set to liven up the Mechanics from November 9th to 16th. Ticket prices are £11 for the early performances and £14.50 from Tuesday to Saturday, from the box office on 664400.

There are also seats available at a black tie dinner show on the opening Sunday, November 10th, at £39 for a four-course meal in the theatre at 4-45pm for 5-15pm, before the show at 7-30pm. For tickets for this ring society chairman Colin Sanderson on 433694.
