Winter flowers to brighten up Burnley General Hospital

Nursery children helped hospital staff plant winter flowers in the Lancashire Women and Newborn Centre in Burnley

The toddlers from Co-operative Care Nursery dug in to lend a hand with the work during the hospital Trust’s Sustainability Week. Trees which had died off over the years were also replaced.

East Lancashire Hospitals’ NHS Trust chairman Hazel Harding said: “I think it’s a lovely idea. It brightens the place up and it is great that the children are involved.”

The children were also given the chance to grow watercress and write their names on stars to hang on the new trees.

The head of the Trust’s Capital and Estates department, Mr Jim Maguire, praised and thanked the children for their efforts and said he also wanted to thank Parkview Landscapes for providing the winter pansies and site manager Sherry Shields for organising the event.
