THERE has been excitement and dismay across Lancashire over the route the Olympic Torch will take through the region as it makes its way to the 2012 London Olympics.

Officials in Burnley are overjoyed the torch will pass through their borough but the Ribble Valley is feeling snubbed.

The London 2012 Organising Committee revealed on Monday the 1,000 cities, towns and villages on the official route of the Olympic Torch Relay which will take 70 days and start at Land’s End, Cornwall, on May 19th. The Olympic Flame will then travel 8,000 miles around the UK, giving thousands of communities and individuals their moment to shine as it comes to a place near them.

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) worked closely with representatives from Lancashire to devise the route, which will see torchbearers pass through Chorley and Ormskirk, before moving on to Morecambe, Lancaster, Garstang, Fleetwood, Lytham St Annes, Preston, Accrington, Burnley and Rawtenstall.
