Police believe another woman walked past and snatched the bag which contained money, bank cards and other personal items.

Officers branded the crime “cowardly” and have released a CCTV image of a potential suspect of the theft which happened around 12-30pm.

PC Trevor Syrett, of Burnley Police, said: “For all intents and purposes, this handbag was stolen from a vulnerable person and is nothing short of a cowardly act.

“If anybody has any information about this incident or recognises the woman in the CCTV then I would urge them to contact police.”
