Blackburn magistrates heard Alex Rees assaulted his partner, throwing her into a bush at the Inn at Whitewell where the reception was held. And when guests returned to Wolfen Mill Cottages, Chipping, they found a trail of destruction involving cars and the property.

Rees, of Rake Street, Bury, pleaded guilty to assaulting Tayah Neild, causing £2,500 worth of damage to her car, hair straighteners and spectacles, causing £5,000 worth of damage to a BMW belonging to Richard Dalton, £5,000 worth of damage to a Vauxhall Astra belonging to Anthony Tickle, £1,500 worth of damage to a Ford Ka belonging to Laura Blockley and damaging a UPC window, a summer house, light fittings and plant pots at a cost of £1,500 to Michael Lawson. He was committed on bail to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said Miss Neild had found Rees aggressive towards her throughout the day. He refused to go to the wedding with her, but then turned up and continued to argue.

“She found him in the smoking area and he was extremely intoxicated and also, she thought, under the influence of something other than alcohol,” said Mrs Yates. “He was abusive towards her and then assaulted her.”

An hour later Miss Neild saw him in the garden area and told him he should leave.

“He became violent, grabbed her by the arm and dragged her across the road and into a bush,” said Mrs Yates. “He pushed her down and was screaming in her face and she was struggling to breathe. She eventually managed to break free and ran back to the reception.”

When the wedding guests returned to Wolfen Mill they found the damage to cars and the buildings and property in Miss Neild’s room.
