Yellow weather warning for wind issued by the Met Office for Lancashire

The yellow warning is in place from 11am until 8pm today (Thursday, March 12, 2020).

Yellow weather warnings mean that people should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of day-to-day activities.

Gusts could peak at speeds of between 60mph to 65mph for parts of the county.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Winds across northern England are expected to strengthen later this morning with gusts reaching 60 mph before gradually easing from the west during the evening.

"The most exposed routes over the Pennines may see gusts in excess of 65 mph for a time."

The yellow weather warning covers Cumbria and eastern parts of the Lancashire, including Burnley and the Ribble Valley.

What to expect:

• Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

• Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

• Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
