Storm Franklin sparked evacuations in parts of the UK and caused widespread rush-hour travel disruption on Monday (February 21).
A yellow wind warning for England, Wales and south-western Scotland was in place until 1pm, while an amber warning for Northern Ireland expired at 7am.
Winds were peaking during rush-hour, according to Greg Dewhurst, senior meteorologist at the Met Office, who added that they will begin noticeably easing around lunchtime.
Storm Franklin's highest gust of 87mph was recorded at the Needles on the Isle of Wight on Sunday evening, followed by current gusts of 79mph on a mountaintop in Wales.

5. Lorry bursts into flames on M6 after strong winds cause it to hit bridge
The M6 was shut both ways between junctions 27 (Standish) and 28 (Leyland) after the crash at 4.50am. Police said strong winds caused a lorry to hit a motorway bridge before 'bursting into flames'. In one picture, fire crews can be seen tackling the fire, with the lorry and its trailer nearly destroyed by the blaze. Fortunately, the driver managed to escape from the burning cab with help from other motorists. He suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital by ambulance, but his injuries were not thought to be serious.
6. Passengers stranded in Preston, Blackpool, Wigan and Manchester after a number of trees fall onto railway tracks
All journeys have been suspended, leaving passengers stranded at Preston, Blackpool, Wigan and Manchester stations. Northern urged people not to travel, warning passengers it did not know when services would resume. It said disruption was expected to continue until the end of the day and added that there were no bus replacement services being offered.
