Heavy rain and snow set to hit Lancashire as Met Offices issues another weather warning

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning with heavy rain and snow predicted to hit Lancashire.

20-30mm of rain is likely to hit the county from Wednesday evening through to Thursday evening, with as much as 50-60mm possible over the hills.

Some of this heavy rain may fall as snow "over the higher parts of the Pennines", the weather experts have warned.

The yellow weather warning for rain covers most of the county and is in place from midnight on Thursday (January 28) to 11.59pm the same day.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Rain will arrive across northwest England on Wednesday evening and turn heavy overnight into Thursday.

"During this time 20-30mm is likely to fall quite widely across the area, with as much as 50-60mm possible over the hills. Some of this may fall as snow over the higher parts of the Pennines.

"Overnight into Friday, the rainfall will become much lighter and more patchy in nature as the rain band pushes southeast."

A cloudy and icy start in the morning before a band of rain arrives from the west, turning wintry over any high ground, giving a wet day. Feeling cold, especially where any snow lies. Maximum temperature 5 °C.

Tonight (January 26):

Into the evening any remaining rain and hill snow slowly clears eastwards. Some wintry hill showers persist, but conditions generally become dry for most. Minimum temperature 0 °C.

Wednesday (January 27):

Any remaining showers clear turning the day dry but cloudy, although some northern parts may briefly see some brighter spells. Rain then arrives from the southwest during the night. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday (January 28 - January 30):

Rainfall turns wintry into the morning, giving snowfall - potentially heavy over any hills. Drier into Friday, though some showers continue, staying wintry over hills. Dry, bright and cold Saturday.
