Weather warning as high winds pound East Lancashire

ALTHOUGH we do not have an amber wind alert in place across Burnley, Pendle and the Ribble Valley today, we are experiencing very high gusts in places.

There are currently no ongoing incidents but, for safety reasons, the A628 around Woodhead pass between the A616 and A57 has been closed in both directions to all traffic due to wind speeds gusting between 60 and 80 m.p.h.

The A66 between the A1(M) and the M6 is closed to high-sided vehicles.

Highways Agency Traffic Officers at control centres at Wakefield and Newton-le-Willows have set signs across the road network advising drivers of the closures and, where appropriate, advising to slow down because of high winds or spray.

Road users are being advised by the Highways Agency to check travel and weather bulletins before setting out. Up-to-date information on road conditions on England’s motorways and trunk roads is also available on the Highways Agency website at www.highways.gov.uk/traffic or by calling the Highways Agency Information Line at 0300 123 5000.
