Watercolours by Prince Charles on show at Towneley

The paintings, on loan from the Royal palaces, will form part of a “Royal Connections” theme at the hall.

It marks 100 years since the official visit of King George V and Queen Mary to Burnley in 1913, part of a tour of Lancashire that saw them take in 37 towns and cities in eight days.

Visitors can also discover stories behind the Royal tour of Lancashire in 1913. Nearly 100 years later the Diamond Jubilee saw the Queen, Prince Philip and Prince Charles all visit the town, and this exhibition celebrates a century of Royal visits to Burnley.

Other collections on display include royal commemorative ceramics, Royal Lancastrian Pottery and photographs of royalty in Burnley.

Coun. John Harbour, Burnley Borough Council’s Executive member for leisure and culture, said: “We’re rightly proud of our royal connections here in Burnley, especially our most recent accolade – a letter from Prince Charles congratulating us on being named Most Enterprising Place in the UK.

“We are especially honoured to have the Prince of Wales’ artwork displayed in the hall.

“We encourage everyone, both local and from further afield, to come and see what is a very special exhibition.”

Younger visitors can dress up and play at being king or queen for a day.

There will also be a storytime event, run by Burnley Library, on Wednesday, November 20th at 2-30pm for under fives.

The exhibition is open now at Towneley Hall and runs until December 5th.
