VOTE: Do you agree with the proposed ‘bedroom tax’?

BENEFIT claimants living in council or housing association properties who are deemed to have a spare bedroom will be subjected to bedroom tax under new welfare reforms from April.

The proposal will see an estimated 660,000 people have their benefit cut as part of the changes, which are designed to encourage people with spare rooms to downsize.

Ministers predict the reforms will help cut the £23 billion annual bill for housing benefit, free up more living space for overcrowded families, and encourage people to get jobs.

But critics of the scheme have said it will target the most vulnerable.
