VIDEO: Police raid Burnley homes

CRACK teams of police wearing riot gear stormed homes across Burnley this week as part of a massive operation to tackle burglary in the town.

Officers were drafted in from other parts of Lancashire to help with Operation Loroley which saw 24 people arrested for their involvement in serious acquisitive crime, 112 items including electrical equipment seized and £3,000 recovered from one property.

The hard-hitting raids, which mainly centred around Burnley Wood, were the culmination of months of intelligence gathering which also saw £172,000 worth of property seized.

Chief Supt Clive Tattum, Pennine divisional commander, who led the operation, said: “This operation has been running for about seven months.

“It is centered on people who commit burglary but inevitably will have been involved in other things as well.

“It is a crime which ruins people’s lives. There is evidence of children not sleeping at night and bed wetting. It’s a crime of misery.”

Chief Supt Tattum said officers would be working hard to reassure residents in the area and allay any fears.
