VIDEO: Pennine 10k charity run in Burnley, the highlights

Cheered on by hand-clapping, banner-waving well-wishers, more than 1,600 runners came out in force to help raise money for a whole host of charities.

Inspired by the late charity champion Jane Tomlinson, it marked three years the Pennine Lancashire 10k had been run and the first time ever in Burnley.

Salford Harrier’s athlete Tarus Elly was the race winner with a time of 32:39. Hot on his heels were Burnley pair Matthew Lalor (34:34) and Jonny McKenna (35:42), finishing second and third respectively.

“It was tough,” said Matthew (29), who was being cheered on by his wife Lauren and three-week-old daughter Elodie. “It was up, then down, then up, then down. It was a really nice course though and I enjoyed it.”

Jonny (26) added: “I only strarted running in Septemeber so I’m happy with my time. It was good to do it in Burnley and it was nice to have my family and friends there cheerimng me on.”
