A HUGE fire ripped through a former mill along the historic Weavers’ Triangle this afternoon.
Firefighters were called to tackle the fierce blaze at the disused Finsley Gate Mill at just before 2 p.m.
The roads around the site were closed off by police as four fire crews battled for more than an hour against the flames and thick black smoke
Mill owner Shirley Murtagh said vandals, fly-tippers and thieves had plagued the crumbling building and she believed the fire had been started deliberately.
“We have had so many problems with vandals. The building has been empty for a while. It has been nothing but trouble. Now it has gone up in flames.”
