The £25,000 white VW Maxi Caddy van was taken along with around £10,000 worth of spray guns, tool boxes and vehicle parts in the raid on Read Motor Body Centre in Hambledon View, Read.

The van, registration no. PE14 MVU, is fairly distinctive because it has a colour coded white bumper and alloy wheels. It belongs to a local company and was in the garage for signwriting.

An early morning walker alerted police this morning when he found the doors open. The family business has been in Read for many years and current owners Chris and Karen Ledger have run it for three years.

Karen said the garage was left intact on Tuesday evening when they locked up. She said the thieves had broken into a key box to drive off with the van, but left a number of other expensive vehicles behind.

She is appealing for anyone with information to contact the police or call the garage on 01282 772935.
