Urgent appeal after dog is stolen from animal sanctuary

AN URGENT appeal has been launched to trace a dog stolen from the busy Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary.

Manager Neil Martin said thieves broke into the Edenfield sanctuary at 12-50 a.m. during on Sunday and stole a young Jack Russell Terrier.

“We have excellent security video footage of the thieves,” he added. “This has been given to the police who are investigating.”

The dog, called Lucy was due to have extensive surgery today for a renal problem and has also missed having essential medication for the last two days.

Mr Martin added: “Bleakholt are very worried her medical needs are not being met and also the kind of home she is now in. One can only wonder what kind of home would accommodate people who would break into a charity rescue and steal an animal in the dead of night.”

He explained that Bleakholt has an extensive, modern CCTV system and images from recent weeks are being reviewed as it is believed the thieves had previously visited during daylight to select the dog they would steal.

“If Lucy is returned to Bleakholt within the next few days no prosecutions will be made,” he said. The dog can be returned via a dog warden, a local vet or by returning her to the police or Bleakholt.
