Ukelele group is formed in Clitheroe

The group was formed after a successful ukulele workshop run during the jazz festival back in May of this year. The workshop was organised by local music and performing arts promotion group Valley Gigs.

It was so well attended and enthusiasm was running so high that organisers John Parkinson and Pete Monk decided to see if people would be interested in a regular ukulele club. It was an instant success.

Numbers have grown and the club now boasts 16 members with a wide range of abilities. The emphasis is on fun. The more able members of the group help the beginners and progress has been swift.

Organiser John Parkinson said that: “We now have some 20 tunes that we are able to play with confidence and are in the process of printing our first ukulele tunes book.”

Pete Monk added: “I’m a complete beginner, but the ukulele is such an easy instrument to learn.

“It has taken over my life, I’m a complete addict – and my wife can vouch for that. We are currently installing soundproofing!”

New members are always welcome. Advice can be given on which ukulele to buy as a first instrument.

Members are also planning to perform on Clitheroe Market on the morning of Saturday December 14th.
