Thousands of pounds invested into Burnley charities and community groups

Burnley Boys and Girls' Club, who celebrated their 120-year anniversary this year and have previously benefitted from funding from the Christal Foundation

The Christal Foundation, which is managed by the Community Foundation for Lancashire, has been established as a permanent charitable endowment fund with its proceeds used to support local grassroots charities in Burnley.

Successful organisations who applied for the most recent round of annual funding have been awarded grants of up to £3,000 each.

That included 5 Ways Boxing CIC who received £3,000 to run their ‘It’s Up 2 Us Again’ project supporting young people to engage on a healthy eating programme as well as developing key social and life skills.

Charter House Activity Centre, in Morse Street, was also awarded funding, receiving £1,500 to help develop their gardening club for adults with learning disabilities.

Meanwhile, Pennine Lancashire Community Farm received £3,000 for ‘chop, cook and eat’ sessions to be delivered at the new 2,000 square foot eco hut in March Street.

Rae Brooke, chief executive of the Community Foundation for Lancashire, said; “We’re delighted to award our second round of grants to local charities via the Christal Foundation and can’t wait to see the impact of their work, supporting local people across Burnley and making a meaningful, positive difference.”

One of the funding models used by the Community Foundation for Lancashire is an endowment-based model which provides funding for the grants. Significant gifts made by individuals, families and business are then invested in order to provide a funding source for Lancashire in perpetuity. Grants from this round were made using the returns on this investment.
