Storm Ciara: Burnley Cemetery temporarily flooded during deluge

Heavy rainfall saw large parts the Rossendale Road cemetery under water as the drainage system battled against high levels of rain.

The cemetery is now clear of water and a Burnley Council spokesman said: "Due to exceptionally high levels of rainfall there was some temporary flooding on some of the plots.

"There is a full and effective drainage system in the cemetery and this water has now drained away.

"The temporary flooding occurred because the rain was coming down so heavily it wasn't allowing time for water to seep into the ground and drain away quickly enough."
