Calling current times 'worrying', the Conservative MP for Pendle nevertheless praise The Fence Gate for their efforts to ensure that some of the region's more vulnerable residents receive food as they contacted more than 50 locals over the age of 80 and sent freshly-prepared shepherd's pie to their front doors last week.

“I am delighted to hear of this initiative by the Fence Gate," said Andrew Stephenson MP. "This is a worrying time for many people, but initiatives like this demonstrate how many local people and businesses are stepping up and responding to the needs of the local community.”

In order to get the meals out, The Fence Gate's owner Kevin Berkins even turned delivery driver to make the rounds and said: “Supporting and pulling together as a community during these unsettling and uncertain times is our top priority. Being in the hospitality industry we couldn’t think of a better way to ensure we play our part and to reach as many people as we can, safely.

"We took all the necessary advice to ensure this was delivered with safety first and foremost and are delighted with the grateful responses we received and many waves of thanks we had from people along the way," he added. “It reminded me of being a child playing knock a door run but this time, residents were more than happy to get that knock on the door!"
