A Year 6 pupil at Reedley Primary School, Abubakr won the award after making significant progress throughout the half-term with his teacher, Miss Barnes, and the school's Deputy Headteacher Mrs Gorrell prising him for "coming on leaps and bounds in his writing."

"He is using a range of sentence structures, changing the way he opens his sentences, and really thinking about his vocabulary choices," said Mrs Gorrell. "His main aim is to engage the reader and he is editing his writing to reflect this."

With the award presented to just one student each half-term, Abubakr's parents were "very proud of him" according to Mrs Gorrell, while Abubakr himself celebrated with his class.
