Tributes to ex pub landlord and folk singer Ken

Mr Ken Curson (65), who was well known throughout the area as one half of talented folk music duo Ginney Run, died on Boxing Day aged 65.

His wife Sherridan told the Express of her heartbreak at losing the man she first met when she was 13.

She said: “I can’t put into words how I’m feeling now. Ken was such a special and lovely man. We first met as teenagers at the Woodtop Methodist Sunday School and had been together ever since.

“Ken started work as a print compositor before working in insurance but his real love was always music.

“We fell into the pub trade and opened Sidewalk53 together in 1987. We then worked together at a number of pubs including Dugdale Arms and two in Blackpool before returning to Burnley.

“Ken was a fantastic man. He wasn’t motivated by money and was very happy and content. Everybody that met him liked him. I am heartbroken.”

Mrs Curson said that her husband, also a keen Clarets fan, had gone to the doctors with a heavy cold and was sent straight to the Royal Blackburn Hospital with suspected pneumonia, but sadly died a few days later. The couple have one son, Darren.

There was standing room only at his funeral at Burnley Crematorium where Ginney Run partner Danny Teggert gave an emotional eulogy.
