Mark went to Trawden Primary School before moving to Padiham and attending Gawthorpe High School. A mischievous character, another nickname he acquired was Del Boy due to his penchant for selling things to his mates in the school yard.

After leaving education, Mark began working at Silentnight, Barnoldswick, and had various other jobs before he put his woodwork skills to good use making sofa frames for Furnico in Colne where he had been employed for 10 years.

Outside work, Mark enjoyed socialising with friends, whether it be at his local pub or far-flung destinations in Spain or Greece.

Mark also loved watching sport and wearing silly hats and would often be seen outdoors caring for the garden, walking the dog or fishing.

Karen Dobney, one of Mark’s closest friends, spoke at his funeral recalling his memorable moments and his mother Gillian added her memories of him are “endless” but included him always coming home from work covered in glue and the fact you would hear him before you would see him.

Karen added: “He never had a bad word to say about anyone. He was always going out socialising, that’s why he had so many friends.”

Mark leaves behind Gillian, father Bill, stepfather Mick, brother Jonathan, sister Sarah and nieces Georgia and Catherine.
