Tree planting work stops river threat to M65 at Brierfield

CONCERN that Brierfield’s river - Pendle Water - could wash away the M65 have been ended, thanks to protective work along the river bank.

In the past, there have been public worries that the river was eating away the bank, threatening to cut into the embankment of the M65 and cause traffic chaos.

But stonework has been edged along the side of the river, protecting the bank. There has also been tree planting, which will also stop the river sweeping toward the highway’s supporting embankment.

And it is also an attractive rural scene - it is very visible from the pathways and Brierfield Woods. So the worries the motorway will collapse have probably gone forever.
