Travellers move from Burnley to set up camp in Padiham

TRAVELLERS who have been staying at various sites across Burnley have now moved to Padiham.

The travellers, who have around seven or eight caravans, were escorted by police from the recreation ground at Cog Lane after Burnley Council obtained a county court warrant.

But they then immediately set up camp at the former recycling centre at Padiham.

A spokesman for Burnley Council said: “We obtained a county court for possession of the site. We’ve been moving this particular group for some weeks now.

“They have been at the Prairie, Queen Victoria Road and at Hargher Clough. We instructed bailiffs to recover the site with police assistance.”

Police confirmed they escorted the caravans on Friday afternoon, which caused some disruption at Gannow roundabout.
