Woman (55) trampled by cows in freak attack

A 55-YEAR-OLD woman had to be rescued after she was trampled by a herd of cows in a freak attack.

The woman was out walking her dog with a friend near the Coldwell Reservoir in Briercliffe on Wednesday evening when the calving herd turned and charged at her.

The terrified woman was knocked to the floor by the cattle which can weigh more than 100st.

A 999 call was made by the injured woman saying the cows had surrounded her and trampled her to the ground along a bridleway off Back Lane.

The woman suffered head injuries and a suspected broken wrist in the attack and had to be airlifted to the Royal Blackburn Hospital by the North-West Air Ambulance.
