Appeal following fatal road traffic collision in Edenfield

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a 25 year old man died when his car collided with a lamp post and a tree in Edenfield last night (Monday 14th January).

The collision took place around 8.30pm when the man, who is from Bury, was travelling south on the A56 dual carriageway in his Nissan Almeria.

He has lost control of the car and collided with a lamp post and a tree before coming to rest down a shallow embankment on the exit slip for Edenfield.

The man was taken to Oldham hospital but suffered significant internal injuries which proved fatal.

Police are appealing to anybody that witnessed the collision to contact them.

Sergeant David Hogarth from the Force Road Policing Unit said: “An investigation is underway into the circumstances of what happened but I would appeal to anybody that witnessed this crash or saw the car being driven prior to the collision to contact police.”

The A56 Edenfield By-Pass Southbound was closed for four hours to allow for collision investigation to take place.
